It is now 3 months since the closure of the mine was announced. Many workers finished up at the end of February, with the majority having left work this last week. It is quite sad to see how empty the streets are since the Easter visitors have left and many families have relocated elsewhere. The weather is still great with some days providing spectacular surfing conditions, and others with calm flat seas and a light breeze. Many homes have been sold already - this town is a wonderful place to have a holiday home!
Contact Terri Pens at Elders if you are interested in investing in Hopetoun.
We would like to say Thank you to all the many friends we have made in this town since arriving in June 2007. From the lovely people who lived here before the mine opened and will be here long after the mine has closed - to the amazing multi-cultural friends we made that came because of the opportunities at the mine. I have enjoyed meeting friends from Ravy, Esperance, Jerdy, Munglinup and further afield, who have impacted on our lives - we are truly blessed to have lived in this area. The Hopetoun Primary school is just fantastic and the staff outstanding. We will be moving to Perth on the 22nd of April and will miss you all - Ross,Jill, Dylan, Kelsey and Sylvia Hutchison

Hopetoun is situated in Western Australia, on the southern shores between Albany (300km) and Esperance (200km). It is a 6 hour drive from Perth, or just over an hour's flight on National Jet from Perth to Ravensthorpe Airport. The Fitzgerald National Park is 10km from the town's centre and has magnificent beaches, wildflowers and rugged cliffs.
Enjoy this website, it has been created to make your time in Hopetoun more enjoyable! Make the most of every visiting play, workshop, speaker - by joining in, you will feel that you belong in the community. When you feel ready, there are plenty of community groups looking for volunteers to help with school, the aged, functions, Sea Rescue or meals-on-wheels. Those that really enjoy their time here have made the effort to step out of their home, out of their comfort zone and volunteer - the choice is yours! If you are one of those families that may be leaving in the next few months, we encourage you to make the most of the great coastline and safe town.
