Tomorrow: Monday 26 January 2009: Australia Day Celebrations in Hopetoun.
Hopetoun Choir members will be putting their all into a special show for laid-off Ravensthorpe Nickel miners at its Australia Day performance at the town park.
The choir plans to sing an uplifting song of hope overcoming adversity especially for the miners, to show its solidarity for the workers and their families, many of whom have become friends or colleagues.
The choir will also sing a movingly patriotic song by local composer and writer Eve Green, among several other patriotic songs.
The Australia Day breakfast starts at 7.30am at the park.

This website was started a few short months ago and already has a large following. It was started to help people settle in to Hopetoun, to build an online community for those that are living in this beautiful little town. On Wednesday 21 Jan, BHPBilliton announced it's decision to close the Ravensthorpe Nickel Operation, to it's workforce. The rest of the day passed in a blur of shock, frustration, surprise, anger, laughter, tears - parties (wakes?) happened in the streets - journalists swarmed into town in pursuit of human interest stories.
So this website has now become the light of hope to many who are facing an uncertain future. As a LifeSuccess coach, I am choosing to hold my view that after each dark moment follows the sunrise - and it will get brighter each day! Each day there will be new quotes, new perspectives - so watch this space. Whatever gets fed into your mind will colour your perspective. You have the choice about what you read, listen to or discuss. No-one deserves what is happening - everyone deserves a bright future. I would like to encourage all of you to visualise the future you really want and hold this vision amidst the uncertainty and other challenges happening right now.

Hopetoun is situated in Western Australia, on the southern shores between Albany (300km) and Esperance (200km). It is a 6 hour drive from Perth, or just over an hour's flight on National Jet from Perth to Ravensthorpe Airport. The Fitzgerald National Park is 10km from the town's centre and has magnificent beaches, wildflowers and rugged cliffs.
Enjoy this website, it has been created to make your time in Hopetoun more enjoyable! Make the most of every visiting play, workshop, speaker - by joining in you will feel as if you belong in the community. When you feel ready, there are plenty of community groups looking for volunteers to help with school, the aged, functions, Sea Rescue or meals-on-wheels. Those that really enjoy their time here have made the effort to step out of their home, out of their comfort zone and volunteer - the choice is yours!
